The Guerrero terrane is a composite terrane mostly characterized by submarine and rarely subaereal volcanic and sedimentary successions that range in age from Upper Jurassic (Tithonian) to middle Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian). Campa and Coney (1983) first subdivided the southern part of the Guerrero terrane into three subterranes: Teloloapan, Huetamo and Zihuatanejo. However, further studies have shown that Guerrero is a composite terrane with a more complex stratigraphy and evolution. Based on recent data, at this time the Guerrero is consider to be formed by at least four to five terranes.
