The concept of fraction has motivated the carrying out of various studies in the field of Mathematics Education, being a priority research topic, the results of which have contributed to various curricular modifications. This article presents a bibliographic review on the teaching and learning of the fraction concept in different con texts within the research in Mathematics Education. The study was descriptive and consisted of 3 phases: search, organization and analysis of the information. It was evidenced that the understanding of the concept of fraction must be strengthened from an early age since its appropriation can have implications in the personal and professional performance of an individual.
