This article explains the relevance of the classics of sociology in light of the problems and processes that concern contemporary societies. The work shows investigations that recover, discuss and contextualize the classics to improve the understanding of contemporary problems. In this sense, the findings show that Durkheim¿s relevance lies in revisiting problems such as suicide and violence, while the Weberian categories of rationality, charisma, bureaucracy, patrimonialism and the State continue to be debated. For his part, Simmel bequeathed the categories of social interaction, fashion and social distance, which have not lost academic relevance.
