Introduction: during the resolution of cases in implantology and oral rehabilitation, imaging studies are involved in each of the phases of said treatment, that is, these studies are important not only in the diagnostic process, but during the actual placement of the implants and obviously in the follow-up stage to evaluate the results of the treatment. Objective: to give an overview of the tools available in the area of oral and maxillofacial imaging to be applied in the planning and resolution of cases of implantology and oral rehabilitation. Material and methods: bibliographic research in books and specialty magazine. Results: Currently, in different dental disciplines such as oral and maxil lofacial surgery, oral pathologist, rehabilitation and implantology, orthodontics and endodontics, among others, tomographic studies are used that give the possibility of having available this dimension called depth (3D) in addition to plain radiographs that provide two-dimensional images. Conclusions: it is of utmost importance that the general practice dentist, as well as those dental surgeons who are interested or who are beginning to develop the implant practice, know the different diagnostic tools for oral and maxillofacial imaging, so that they can use them when they face the resolution of implantology and oral rehabilitation cases.
