Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipocytes that has been associated with the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Additionally, leptin promotes the migration and invasion of mammary epithelial cells through the activation of FAK and Src kinases, which are part of a regulatory complex of signaling pathways that promotes the expression of proteins related to the formation of proteolytic structures involved in the invasion and progression of cancer.
