Quantification of toxic element¿s contents associated with different chemical fractions of mining tailings is essential to assess their true impact on environment, since these measures provide necessary information about processes and times for these toxic elements to become bioassimilable substances. When these determinations are combined with identification of minerals carrying Potentially Toxic Elements, we obtain valuable information about processes that make them accessible to biota and humans.
