Nowadays, fractional calculus has a high development potential in mathematical modeling through fractional differential equations and it also allows the extension, to non-integer orders, of concepts such as derivative and integral. It is a new approach that includes previous Leibtniz¿s research works. An issue related to mathematical concepts that are taught at present is the lack of their own genesis contextualization. Consequently, they are presented as ended objects with no historical precedent. In this paper, we present an advance of the analysis of Liouville¿s work (1832) which is considered essential in the development of the fractional calculation, by historians. We use the historical research method and the qualitative analysis of texts. The investigation let us identify some historical and epistemological aspects that led to the development of fractional calculus development.
